The Bonnie Tuman Grassey Scholarship

The Bonnie Tuman Grassey Scholarship Fund has been established to honor our beloved Bonnie who passed away recently after a brave struggle against cancer. This annual scholarship will help a preschool child from an impoverished region in Guatemala. Bendicion de Dios was especially meaningful to Bonnie because her daughters, Danielle and Nicole, were personally engaged in traveling and supporting the school.

Family was everything to Bonnie. She lived for precious moments spent with her grandchildren, nephew, and niece. Even on her hardest days, her grandchildren would always bring a huge smile to her face. When she wasn’t busy working on a spreadsheet for her next vacation, she spent a lot of her free time with her family, especially her parents. Bonnie cherished her friends, who she enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing and shopping with. If you didn’t know, Bonnie was also an extremely enthusiastic and very competitive card and board game player.

As Director of Epidemiology at Jefferson-Abington Hospital, she cared deeply about her work and her many colleagues. During her last days, Bonnie was hospitalized at Abington Hospital. The steady parade of friends and colleagues who stopped in to say good-bye, to tell her they loved her, and to talk about her impact on their lives and on “the thousands and thousands of patients who benefited from her work", lifted her family’s spirits to know she was so well-respected. Bonnie loved “her” team and it was with great sorrow she left them.

Bonnie was truly a joy to everyone who knew her. Her smile, infectious laugh, and her kindness will be forever remembered and she will always be missed.

The choice of a scholarship for pre-school children reflects the ones who brought so much joy to Bonnie. Your donation will provide an education scholarship for pre-school children who are not able to afford the annual costs ($360.00) for the public school.

Under the Same Moon is a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) organization. The Asociación Bendición de Dios is a Guatemalan-registered nonprofit governmental organization. The school, Bendición de Dios, educates about 500 children who otherwise would not be able to afford the $300 annual fees for the "public" school. The Asociación aims to raise community living standards so that children come to school healthy and well-rested.
